Attorney General Michael Mischin has welcomed the Law Reform Commission’s report on Enhancing Family and Domestic Violence Laws. Mr Mischin tabled the Commission’s final report in State Parliament today.
The State Government will now examine the findings in detail. The Attorney General has said that he expects to present his Cabinet colleagues with a package of proposed reforms later this year.
One of the Commission’s key recommendations is the creation of a specific domestic violence protection law, the Family and Domestic Violence Protection Order Act, which would mean family and domestic violence orders would be separated out from the existing Restraining Orders Act and managed under this new legislation.
