Return of property

The police may have to take away something of yours, eg some of your clothes or an item the offender left fingerprints or DNA on. They will ask your permission first.

If your property is needed as evidence in court, it may be necessary for those items to be held by the police or the Director of Public Prosecutions until the court process, including all appeals, has finished. This could take a long time, but if your property is used as evidence, it will be returned to you as soon as possible.
